Hen history / origin
A town newly established from Shitaya Hon, Nakasatomura, Tsuzuki-gun, when transferring to Yokohama City in 1939. In the old days, it was Shitaya Honmura, Tsuzuki-gun. When the municipal system was enacted in 1889, it merged with Teraya Village, Kamoshida Village, Nariai Village, Kamiya Honmura, Tetsumura, Kurosuda Village, Oba Village, Ichigao Village, Kita hassaku Village, Nishi hassaku Village, Koyama Village, Aoto Village, Shimo-Ao Village, and Shitaya Honmura. Transferred from Midori Ward following the reorganization of administrative districts in 1994. The name of the town was taken from the old village name.
