Useful in the June issue of emergency! Report on "Wind and Flood Damage Experience Tour"
In Yokohama Disaster Risk Reduction Learning Center, visitors can learn about disaster prevention and reduce disaster damage in an easy-to-understand manner through storm and flood damage tours and earthquakes and fire tours. This time, I went on a storm and flood damage experience tour!
Last updated on January 19, 2024.
The reduce disaster damage Training Room, where students can experience evacuation behavior.
The first thing I experienced was the reduce disaster damage Training Room. If a typhoon is approaching when you are at home, you can learn what action should be taken. I learned whether my judgment was appropriate by relying on maps (hazard map) that could grasp the situation around the house and information from TV.
First of all, experience!
1.It was heavy rain outside and the wind was getting stronger.
2.Since the heavy rain flood warning was announced in the city, we moved to evacuation.
3.While I was worried about whether to go outside or stay indoors, strong winds broke the window glass, causing earth and sand to flow into the room, and had to evacuate to the second floor.
In the case of my evacuation behavior, I evacuated to the second floor with the house flooded, so I became a "rescue required" without rescue.
After the simulation, you will be able to teach you the correct evacuation method, so please try it!
I was able to experience using AR.
From April of this year, you can also experience using AR (Augmented Reality). Looking at the situation when the house was flooded through a smartphone, the idea of disaster prevention became stronger.
In case of assumed inundation 0.5 meters
As the flooding progresses, the inside of the house will not be safe.
"Disaster Theater" to learn by watching video
At the Disaster Theater, we watched a video about evacuation behavior that compares the two types of evacuation behavior when the typhoon approaches, "If your home is okay and you neglect the disaster" and "If you take evacuation actions based on the evacuation information." Through the video, I was able to learn about the importance of evacuation information, self support, community support, and others.
Also, what surprised me through this video learning was the reliability of hazard map. hazard map is a map (*2) that can be used as a basis for evacuation actions, assuming the extent of damage caused by natural disasters. When the disaster actually occurred, the damage range assumed by hazard map was almost consistent with the actual damage range, so I felt that I was reminded of the importance of hazard map and to confirm the area where I live in advance, not just after the disaster occurred.
※1: self support is to protect yourself, community support is to help each other.
※2: Please refer to the "Disaster Prevention Map" for hazard map maps of each ward.
"My Timeline" to consider your evacuation behavior in advance.
After learning about the importance of evacuation actions based on hazard map and evacuation information at the Disaster Theater, I created the My Timeline.
My Timeline is an evacuation action plan that is organized in chronological order in advance according to your family structure and local environment for possible disasters such as floods caused by typhoons and heavy rains.
When creating the My Timeline, first use the hazard map to see if your area is in danger of flooding or landslide. Next, there are elderly people, disabled people, infants, pregnant women, pets, etc. in the home, and grasp whether they need assistance during evacuation, and create their own action plan for each alert level.
It is a valuable opportunity to give advice on evacuation behavior directly from a guide at the Disaster Prevention Center!
Experience evacuation in the event of storm and flood damage in virtual space! "Wind and Flood Damage VR Experience"
In addition to experiencing storm and flood damage tours, Yokohama Disaster Risk Reduction Learning Center also offers 14 types of programs, such as water discharge training, while experiencing techniques and knowledge useful in the event of a disaster.
This time, we experienced "Wind and Flood Damage VR" utilizing VR (virtual reality). In VR, we aim for evacuation sites by selecting evacuation behavior for each of the three stages (home, residential, and building districts). This content allows you to learn about correct evacuation behavior based on real disaster experiences. Please feel free to experience it.
