Since fiscal 2013, in cooperation with the Ministry of the Environment and the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums, Preservation and Research Center, City of Yokohama has been raising Svalbard Rock Ptarmigan, the subspecies of Japanese Rock Ptarmigan, and has been conducting research on the ptarmigan habitat of Ex situ conservation with researchers from zoos and universities in Japan. Furthermore, in March 2019, we introduced two Japanese Rock Ptarmigan birds to improve breeding techniques.
As part of the Ministry of the Environment's “ptarmigan Conservation and Proliferation Project Plan,” we will introduce a new male Japanese Rock Ptarmigan from theJapanese Rock PtarmiganPreservation and Research Center, City of Yokohama.
