A fifth grader from Tozuka Elementary School (4 classes, 140 students) makes rice on the rooftop paddy field (34 meters above ground, about 50 square meters) on the 8th floor of the Totsuka Ward Office, with the cooperation of farmers in JA Yokohama and Maiokacho.
Rice making on the rooftop paddy field begins with the relocation of the ward office in 2013, and is the eleventh this year. Through one year of rice cultivation on the rooftop paddy field, elementary school studenｔ will deepen their understanding of agriculture and interest in locally grown and consumed.
