Interest in food grown at the Yokohama Central Wholesale Market

Last updated on February 27, 2025.

The Yokohama Central Wholesale Market, which is popular as a kitchen for Yokohama citizens, accepts tours of elementary schools in the city to encourage children to become interested in food. On the day I visited the town news "Director General People and Town Tour" (outside site), elementary school student from Terao Elementary School in Tsurumi Ward came to visit.
The members of the Yokohama Market Fruits and Vegetables Department Revitalization Committee and the Yokohama City Central Wholesale Market Fish Food Promotion Council will accept the tour. He was told that they wanted them to be interested in where they came from and what stage they were going to sell to supermarkets.
elementary school student and others learn about the work of the market through mock auctions and tours of facilities. In the mock auction, elementary school student and others were trying to compete quickly as if they were a professional, using a hand gesture (sign of the hand of the auction). He was surprised at the unmanaged large seafood, was impressed by the sweet scent of strawberries, and seemed to use his five senses to learn the importance and fun of food.
The Central Wholesale Market was established in 1931 and has developed with Kanagawa Ward. Every Saturday, the Fisheries Wholesale Building is open to the public, and events such as a tuna dismantling show are also held, attracting many visitors.
I would like to encourage the ward office together as an attractive spot in Kanagawa Ward.
