Last updated on December 23, 2024.

Let's prepare for a disaster. A video for pet owners is being posted!

In recent years, awareness of disaster prevention has increased amid various natural disasters, but be prepared for disaster, including pets, is still not enough. In Kohoku Ward Health Sanitation Division, we created a video for pet owners.
The first and second parts will be a video of about 3 minutes each, so if you are a pet owner, please watch it.

What do you do with your pet in the event of a disaster?

In the event of a disaster, ensure your safety first. You will not be able to protect your pet unless the owner is safe.

The environment that can be selected varies depending on the size of the disaster, the area, the situation of the disaster, and the passage of time since the disaster.
The owner should choose an appropriate breeding environment based on each situation.

  • Evacuation at home (if you can live at home)
  • Evacuation (when breeding in evacuation shelter) (Note)
  • Leave relatives, friends, etc. at the facility

(Note) In evacuation shelter, pets are generally kept in a place away from the area where people live (temporary breeding area).

For more information, please visit the Yokohama Animal Protection Center page.

In addition, "Guidelines for Evacuation with Pets" are posted, so pet owners and evacuation shelter Steering Committee members should refer to disaster countermeasures.

Please cooperate with "questionnaire" about pet preparation at the time of disaster

In order to make better efforts and to review your preparedness, please cooperate with the questionnaire survey on the situation in be prepared for disaster, "[Kohoku Ward Limited] Survey on Pet Disaster Preparedness for Pets" (external site).

Let's create a My Timeline (Evacuation Action Plan) in case something happens

My Timeline is your own evacuation action plan organized in chronological order according to the area and family structure where you live.
Check the hazard map (Disaster Prevention Map), and if you live in an area where damage is expected, leave your pet in advance at a temporary storage location so that you can evacuate quickly in case of emergency. Let's make a timeline.

Pet training and health management on a daily basis

It is important to gain the understanding of other refugee in evacuation shelter and to reduce the stress of animals.
