At Seya Sakura Elementary School, which loves Sakura, there was an event that values Sakura (March 8, 2024)

Last updated on March 8, 2024.

On Wednesday, February 28, I visited Seya Sakura Elementary School.
Seya Sakura Elementary School is an elementary school formed by Shimoseya Elementary School, which was founded in 1975, and merged with Hyugayama Elementary School in 2010, and has inherited the school building of the former Shimoseya Elementary School as it is.
The cherry trees around the ground become old trees, and there is a high risk of falling trees, so we cut some of them last summer, and now large stumps remain.
The principal, who felt sorry that the number of cherry trees was reduced even though it was "Sakura Elementary School", was linked to the feelings of the principal and Seya Ward, who wanted to foster momentum for GREEN x EXPO 2027 and connect the legacy of cherry blossoms on the naval road.

Under the guidance of JA Yokohama's Ueki Club, while being watched by the members of the Sakura Children Support Corps and volunteer guardians, the fifth graders of Seya Sakura Elementary School grafted "Sakura on Naval Road" Was made.
Each inserted a cherry blossom branch on the Naval Road into a cherry blossom branch, which is a rootstock, and fixed it with tape to make a potted plant.

I made one too. It is said that the success rate of grafting is about 10% to 20%. The grafts made by the students are at elementary schools, and the grafts I made are closely watched at the ward office.

This is the second school to hold a cherry tree grafting event at an elementary school in Seya Ward, following last year's Kamiseya Elementary School. I'm looking forward to replanting it to the ground when it's enough to plant trees, and then seeing cherry blossoms by the time you grow up.
Thank you very much to JA Yokohama, Sakura no Child Support Corps, and parents for their cooperation on the day.
JA Yokohama also received cherry blossoms for cutting. We are planning to use this to foster momentum for GREEN x EXPO 2027.
