Types of public pension, etc. Main procedures for those who receive pension

Last updated on March 16, 2023.

  1. When the person receiving pension moved
  2. When the person receiving pension died
  3. When the pension certificate is lost
  4. Notification to continue receiving pension “Status Report”

In principle, if you are a recipient whose My Number and Basic Pension Number are linked when you change Address, you do not need to notify us of the change in Address. However, if you live in a place different from Address in resident certificate, you must notify the pension office if you are receiving adult guardianship. There is no need to rewrite the Address on the pension certificate.
※If you are a recipient of a mutual aid pension, please consult with each mutual aid association.

If the person receiving pension no longer dies, the recipient who is linked to My Number and Basic Pension Number does not need to submit a pensioner death registration/death notification form.
If there is a surviving family with the same livelihood, you can claim unpaid pension. At the same time, please refer to the pension page.
※If the recipient of the mutual aid pension dies, consult with each mutual aid association.

Please go to the pension office to re-issue your pension certificate. The procedure is also possible by mail.
※If you are a recipient of a mutual aid pension, please consult with each mutual aid association.

In principle, it is no longer necessary to submit a status report.

Until now, those receiving pension had to submit a “Status Report” once a year. Since October 2006, the pension Organization of Japan (formerly the Social Insurance Agency) has been using the Basic Resident Register Network to check the status of those receiving pension.

Those who need to submit a status report in the future

If you are unable to confirm the current status using the Network System for Basic Resident Registers, you will still need to submit a status report.
Example) Those who need to submit a status report

  • Those who live in foreign countries
  • Those who have different personal information (name, gender, date of birth, Address) held by the Japan pension Organization and cannot record resident certificatethe Network System for Basic Resident Registers (*)
※If applicable, we will send you a notice from the Japan pension Organization that we were unable to record the resident certificate code. If the resident certificate code can be recorded by performing the prescribed procedures, the future status report will be omitted.
