Types of public pension, etc. Basic retirement pension (4)

Last updated on December 19, 2023.

Advance payment and deferred payment of old age basic pension

The age at which the basic retirement pension is paid is 65 years old, but you can extend the time of payment from the age of 65 and receive payment from the desired age after 66 years old. This is called the deferral of payment. The amount of the basic retirement pension received by the person who deferred the payment is the amount that can be received from the age of 65, according to the age of the actual pension.
You can also receive advance payment between the ages of 60 and under 65. In this case, the amount will be reduced according to the age of the actual pension payment start date. The payment rate at the time of this advance or deferral does not change for a lifetime.
If the old age basic pension is advanced and received, all or part of the old age Employee Pension Plan (Kosei Nenkin), which is specially provided by Employee Pension Plan (Kosei Nenkin) before the age of 65, may be suspended, or Disability Basic Pension may not be paid if it falls under the first or second grade due to illness or injury.
※If you request an advanced or deferred old age basic pension, you will be paid from the month following the request, so you will need to complete the procedure from the day before your birthday to the last day of the month. For example, if you have a birthday on May 1, you will be paid from May if you make an advance / defer request on April 30 the day before. If you claim on May 1, you will be paid from June.

※From April 2022, the maximum age for deferral of old-age pensions was raised from 70 to 75, making it possible to freely choose the start time for pension to 75.
Based on this, from April 2023, the system was revised so that even after the age of 70, even if you choose to go back to receive the original pension without making a deferral after reaching the age of 70, it will be deemed to have been deferred five years before the claim, and will be able to collectively receive the increased pension's five-year portion. This is referred to as the "Special Deferred Deemed Increase System." (For details on the target persons, please see the Japan pension Organization website (outside site).)
