Those who are eligible

Those who have been admitted to our hospital neurosurgery between October 1, 2023 and September 30, 2028

Research Purpose and Significance

The purpose of this study is to register, aggregate, and analyze medical information, including surgery at neurosurgery facilities throughout Japan, to which members of the Japan Society of Neurosurgery and specialists belong, to help improve the quality of medical care and provide the best medical care to patients. It is possible to "visualize" the actual situation of neurosurgery in Japan, examine improvement measures based on actual data for identified issues, and clarify and compare the level of medical care at facilities, regions, and nationwide.
In addition, the results of the analysis reveal the risks associated with surgery and treatment more accurately, and the physician in charge can share the risks and benefits associated with treatment with patients and their families before deciding on treatment policies. By verifying the actual situation of neurosurgery nationwide from a bird's-eye view of the actual situation of neurosurgery medicine nationwide, it is necessary to verify a better neurosurgery system in order to enable patients nationwide to receive surgery and treatment with peace of mind. It will also be a basic document.

Method of research

This study is a multi-institutional joint research in Japan led by the Japan Society of Neurosurgery, and plans to cover all patients who have been admitted to our hospital neurosurgery and have undergone treatment or surgery. This study was started in 2018, and more than 2.2 million patient information has already been registered. In the future, we plan to register about 600,000 new patient information annually throughout Japan, and specific research registration items are shown below, but do not include personally identifiable information. This is a study that obtains information such as the age recorded in the medical record (medical record), the date of admission and discharge, the details of the medical treatment, and the method of surgery in the past medical treatment. In particular, there is no need to pay for it.
The information provided is collected by doctors from all over the country in a single database via a dedicated Internet registration system, shared only electronic data with the outsourcing company for analysis. The names of the research subjects will not be transmitted to contractors or other institutions.

If you would like to obtain and view research plans and materials related to research methods and learn more about the research details, please contact the contact information at the end. We will provide it to the extent that it does not interfere with the protection of personal information of other research subjects and the securing of originality of research.

Protection of your personal information

The information collected in connection with this research will be handled carefully so that it will not be leaked to the outside world.

〇 When linking personal information with research IDs (creating a response table)
The acquired information will be cut off from personal information such as name and patient ID, and instead a new research code will be added so that you do not know who it belongs.

Information processed so that you do not know who it belongs is sent to an Internet server managed by a contractor who has contracted with the Japan Society of Neurosurgery, and is analyzed and stored.
However, if necessary, the Medical consultation fee may perform an operation to return this code to its original name.

If you do not wish to use your (or your family) data for this study, please contact family doctor or contact the following address within 3 months after discharge. If you do not participate in the research, there will be no disadvantage in the future.
If you do not contact us, we will be grateful for your understanding.

The results of the research will be published in academic journals after making sure that personal information such as your name is not disclosed.

The acquired information will be stored for 10 years at the end of the research period (after the publication of the paper) under strict control. After the storage period is over, it is discarded by deleting it in a form that cannot be restored from the data recording medium. If you have any inquiries, please contact us at the following URL.
This information may also be used for research other than this study during storage period. In such cases, we will have the opportunity to obtain the approval of the Ethics Committee again and obtain your consent or refuse to become a research subject through information disclosure.
