Changes in the oral environment and changes in the perception of ICU nurses due to the cleaning method
Research project name
Changes in the oral environment and changes in the perception of ICU nurses due to the cleaning method
Purpose and Method of Research
Purpose
The aim is to maintain and improve the patient's oral environment by introducing a more effective oral care method (cleaning method) and conducting oral care more consciously and carefully.
Method
Oral care is performed by cleaning method at least three times a day. Observe and evaluate the condition in the oral cavity every 3-4 days from the day of hospitalization using an objective index called OHAT-J. ICU nurses, in cooperation with dental hygienists, hold regular study sessions to acquire more effective oral care skills.
Subject of research
Patients in ICU who are unable to provide oral care such as toothpaste due to impaired consciousness.
Research Period
From November 2023 to December 31, 2024
Types of specimens and information used in research
Gender, age, name of illness, consciousness, presence or absence of oral intake, oral conditions (evaluation items of OHAT-J: visual observation of lips, tongue, gums, mucous membranes and saliva), presence or absence of vomiting at hospitalization
Acquisition and storage of samples and information
We use medical data such as electronic medical records. The data is stored in a password-protected USB and stored in a locked cabinet.

The burden and expected risks and benefits arising from research subjects
Oral care provided to patients is a method that is also recognized by academic societies, and we believe that higher quality care is provided. Therefore, the burden and risk on patients are not predicted.
