You and the night and music

Last updated on March 30, 2021.

There is a famous jazz song called "You and the Night and the Music". The song was written for a musical called "Revenge with music" in 1934, and has since been sung and played by many singers and musicians, including Julie Longdon and Bill Evans. Passive lyrics such as "You, night and music will peep me" are planted on attractive songs. If you listen to the stimulating and reminiscent lyrics, you will not be able to sleep.
Well, what is the relationship between sleep and music? At bedtime, there was a study that examined whether the quality of sleep changes due to "listening to music", "listening to stories", and "silence", and as a result, more than 80% of people sleep while listening to slow-tempo classics at low volume. It was said that the quality of sleep has improved. Generally speaking, the characteristics of music that introduces good sleep are songs that have no lyrics, low volume slow tempo, natural sounds, and high frequency. The lyrics seem to be awakening, and "You, Night and Music" seems to be not suitable for sleeping. On the other hand, while sleeping, sound interferes with sleep, so a quiet environment as possible is desired. In order to get a good sleep, it seems good to sleep while listening to your favorite relaxing music at a low volume, and turn off the music with a timer when you fall asleep.
If you are reading this column, there is a way to improve the quality of sleep. That's right. "You and the night and CPAP."
