Sleep apnea syndrome and books

Last updated on August 30, 2021.

Thirteen years before the start of sleep apnea syndrome outpatient (CPAP outpatient) at our hospital, there were few books on SAS. Since then, SAS-related books have increased as SAS has been featured in the mass media and public interest has increased.
This time, when I searched on Amazon on the Internet shopping site for "Sleep apnea syndrome" as a keyword to find out what kind of SAS-related books are available, more than 100 books were found. Among them, when I saw the top 30 titles recommended by Amazon, there were books in various genres and themes. In the following, we have arranged them in the order of many different types.

Medical books (10 books)

It has been published in a wide range of fields, from guidelines compiled by the Medical Society to those provided by specialists explaining specific treatment methods. Medical books were expensive side by side, and some were more than 10,000 yen.

Sleep-related books (8 books)

It is a book that touches not only SAS but also sleep in general. I think the number of types represents a high level of interest in sleep.

SAS General Practical Book (6 books)

This is a comprehensive explanation of SAS for the general public.
Many of these are also available, indicating the high level of public interest.

Experiences of SAS Patients (3 books)

It describes the experience from the diagnosis of SAS to the start of treatment and on track by the general public. SAS had poor subjective symptoms, so I was diagnosed with SAS in some way, and I was surprised by CPAP, but when I started treatment, daytime drowsiness disappeared like a lie.…I think that a series of surprises has been told. It will be helpful for patients before and after the diagnosis of SAS.

Others (3 books)

There were three books: arrhythmia medical book, a utility book on general health, and a story about diet and health. SAS is also mentioned in books with such a theme.

At the end

Compared to 10 years ago, there is a feeling of different world in the type and number of books. While it is said that the number of potential patients with SAS is 3 to 9 million, CPAP therapy is 500,000, the gap is still large, and we hope that these books will further promote SAS knowledge and CPAP therapy.
