Today, September 1 is "Disaster Prevention Day" enacted after the Great Kanto Earthquake that occurred on September 1, 1923 (Daisho 12). It seems that the damage has spread further in Yokohama due to the fire that occurred after the earthquake. This year, disaster prevention-related events have been reduced or canceled to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection, but we would like inhabitants of a ward to take daily measures in case of emergency.
From today, the day of disaster prevention, the Green Fire Poster Exhibition is being held in the event space on the first floor of the Midori Ward Office. This poster exhibition by Midori fire department is held every year, saying, "I want elementary school students to think about fire prevention and disaster prevention." This year there were 64 entries from 3rd to 6th grade at 6 elementary schools in the city.
Entries collected include fire play, fireworks, cigarette fires, arson alerts, and calls for community support in the event of a disaster. Mr. Hidehiro Nakamura, Chief of Midori fire department, also commented, "Everyone is drawn well."
After the exhibition, the winners will be selected through the votes of everyone who came to see us and the screening by the Midori fire department Green Fire Prevention Association, and will be posted at various locations in Midori Ward to raise awareness of fire prevention. I was very worried about many colorful works, but I chose three works and voted.
