63.Monument of Shozan Sakuma (Shozan), a pioneer of the opening of the country (near 63-1 Oimatsucho)
Speaking of the driving force behind the opening of Yokohama Port, it seems that the market price is fixed with the elder Ii, who stared at the harbor from the height of Mt. Kamon, but there is another man who built a fine stone monument in Nogeyama Park next door as a pioneer of opening the port. This inscription, built in 1954, is written by Ryozo Hiranuma, the mayor of the time.
The name of the person was Shozan Sakuma and Shinshu Matsuyo, and was sung from a young age for the first time. He was deeply knowledgeable not only in language but also in Western artillery, and came to Yokohama as a military member of the Matsuyo clan, but his theory of opening the country was advanced and could not be accepted by the Shogunate.
In July 1864, Fuunji, who had been in prison for eight years following the smuggling incident in Yoshida Shoin, died suddenly in the hands of a foreigner while riding in clothes in Kiya-cho, Kyoto.
