What is the procedure (transfer of domicile notification) for moving (change) permanent domicile?

If you want to change permanent domicile in family register, you need to submit a notification of transfer of domicile to the ward office Family Registry Division Family Registry Section.
・The couple may not have a separate place as their domicile. If you wish to transfer only permanent domicile, a person other than the first and spouse of family register, you will be required to submit a separate registration. For more information, please refer to the following link.
・You can't change permanent domicile in family register, which has already been removed.

　One transfer of domicile notification
　・The notification form is common throughout the country.
　・At the ward office Family Registry Division Family Registry Section or the administrative service corner, you will receive a transfer of domicile notification form and instructions on how to write it. We do not hand it over at the city hall.
　・We can download from page of electronic application, report service of Yokohama-shi web site.
　・applicant is the person listed at the top of family register and his spouse. If the first person is under 15 years of age, it will be legal representative.
　・If one of the couple is dead, you can report it alone.
　・You may be a messenger other than applicant.

■　Notes
　From March 1, 2024, it is no longer necessary to attach a family register certificate when submitting a family register notification. However, in the case of family register, which is not computerized, the attachment to family register cannot be omitted. Except for transfer of domicile in the same ward, please obtain certificate of family register at your home address as before and attach it to the notice.

・applicant (the person listed at the top of family register and his spouse. Your signature is required for the transfer of domicile notification. If the first person is under 15 years of age, it will be the "Ward Office Family Registry Division Family Registry Section" of the ward where permanent domicile is located or the ward where permanent domicile is newly located (legal representative is acceptable). (It cannot be handled at the administrative service corner or city hall.)

The new permanent domicile can be registered anywhere in Japan.

Those who have been removed from family register before transfer of domicile due to death or marriage will not be listed in the new family register after transfer of domicile.

・Please describe Address, which is currently registered as a resident.
・If you are going to change the Address or the like at the same time as the transfer of domicile notification and you want to submit a notification to the new Address area, please fill out the notification form with the new Address and submit a notification regarding the change of Address.
(You can't change Address just by transfer of domicile notification. Notification of change in Address will be handled only by the ward office Hours. For more information, please check with the ward office Family Registry Division Registration Section. )
