In the past, there was a streetcar that was known as the "Chinchin Train" in Nishi Ward. It started running in the Meiji era (1904), and until the Showa era it was a major means of transportation, and I used it wherever I went.
There were eight streetcars at the Takashimacho intersection near Yokohama Station. Take Yokohama-sta. to Rokukakubashi and Namamugi. Via Sakuragicho-sta. to the gate, Yahatabashi, etc. To Idogaya and Komyoji through Hodogaya Station. Through Hamamatsucho, go to Fujidana, Kuboyama, Bandobashi, Urafunecho, Takigashira, etc.
There were many streetcars at the corner of the Takashimacho intersection, so there was a "sign tower" to switch between traffic lights and tracks. As a child, I was longing for the staff working at this traffic light tower. Now, buses, trucks and passenger cars run around this intersection, highways and Keihin Tohoku Lines are overpassed, and municipal subways pass underground, making it even more crowded.
