It's new! Nishi Ward Tekuteku Sketch: The 69th Kanagawa magistrate's office Site
This is a sketch and text published in the public relations Yokohama Nishi Ward version from June 2013. The content may differ from the current one. Thank you for your understanding.
Kanagawa magistrate's office Site
In Nishi Ward, there was magistrate's office in the late Edo period. From the Momijizaka intersection near Sakuragicho Station, cross the Momiji Bridge and climb the Momijizaka. On the right, Pref. Youth Center Main Building stands with a recital of theater and music. A stone monument of "Kanagawa magistrate's office Ruins" stands in front of the building.
In 1859 (Ansei 6), when Yokohama opened, a magistrate's office was set up here. It was called the Tobe Office, and the judicial and administrative affairs of Yokohama were performed. There was also a meeting place in Kanagawa Ward, near the port of Naka Ward.
It is said that the Tobe government office had a duty to monitor travelers from the bottom of Asama on the old Tokaido Highway, along the way to the port through the steep Yokohama way.
It is said that 22 magistrates of Kanagawa magistrate's office were appointed, and up to 1,000 people served, including concentric and Ashikaga. Was there a magistrate like Kinshiro Toyama, a popular historical drama town magistrate?
The magistrate's office was abolished in 1868.
