It's new! Nishi Ward Tekuteku Sketch: The 50th Yokohama Takashimaya

Immediately after the end of the war, Yokohama-sta.-nishiguchi was a storage area for gravel and other materials, but I never went there when I was a child.
In 1956 (Showa 31) in West Exit, where there was nothing, the Takashimaya Store opened as a laboratory along with Yokohama Station Masterpiece Street. He says it was a great adventure that was refused by other department stores. A large number of young shoppers gathered in a new glamorous shopping district.
Three years later, in 1959 (Showa 34), "Yokohama Takashimaya", which has four stories above ground (some seven stories), opened in earnest. The display items such as fashionable clothes and ornaments were very attractive.
In 1973 (Showa 48), a new store opened again. In the square beside the escalator at the back of the first floor, there was a fountain "Rose no Izumi", which is now gone. The rapid development of Yokohama-sta.-nishiguchi had no places to rest, such as parks, so the square was always lively with resters. The fountain square was "the oasis of West Exit."
