Next to Landmark Plaza Shopping Center in the Minato Mirai district, there is a Yokohama Museum of Art that features a long column and a semicircular building in the center.
In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the municipal government of Yokohama and the 130th anniversary of the opening of Yokohama Port, the museum opened as a pavilion at the Yokohama Expo held in March 1989. Other than that, Sail Training Ship, Nippon Maru, Moving Walkway, Rinko Park (Seaside Park), etc.
At that time, gorgeous pavilions lined up around the area, and parades were held every day on Festival Street, which stretches in front of the museum, and it was very busy. Nowadays, high-rise buildings are lined up, and it is always crowded with office workers and fashionable shoppers.
Yokohama Museum of Art, which officially opened after the expo, has collected many works of artists related to Yokohama since the late Tokugawa shogunate. There are many art exhibitions that have been talked about, such as the "Degas Exhibition" and the exhibition of Yoshitomo Nara. From now on, I would like to see many attractive art exhibitions.
