Illustration of West Exit Fifth Avenue

Exit the Minami West Exit of Yokohama Station in Soutetsu Line and turn left. In a moment, there is always a busy West Exit Fifth Avenue.
Yokohama-sta.-nishiguchi was an inlet called Sodegaura in the Edo period, and was later developed in Nitta and eventually reclaimed. In the 1930s after the war, Yokohama Takashimaya Dept.Store, a famous West Exit district, was born, and West Exit Fifth Avenue opened in 1961. Around this time, transportation spread from the center of Yokohama tram to trains, and young people gathered in West Exit as a downtown area.
There were many coffee shops in West Exit Fifth Avenue. The famous song cafe "Rural", brick "Kojo", "Lamer", "Rose Garden", "Yokohama Coffee Shop", etc. Nearby were "Catrea", "Shirakaba" and "Swan". The city is filled with memories of youth.
