Illustration of Karuizawa Kofun Ruins

Nishi Ward also had the old keyhole-shaped kofun.
From the lower intersection of Asama near Yokohama-sta.-nishiguchi toward Mitsuzawa Park, follow the sidewalk on the right side of the slope where cars run. After passing the church, there is a cliff, and when you climb the steep stairs on the right, you will see a monument to the "Remains of the Front Kofun" between Kiki. Looking at the photos on the explanatory board, it seems that the tumulus was actually in a driving school a little further ahead.
Excavation was excavated in 1965 (Showa 40) and found to have been built in the first half of the 7th century. keyhole-shaped kofun has a side-hole and pit-type stone chamber with a total length of 26.5 meters, a height of 2.9 meters, and a three-step burial mound. From inside, earrings (Jikan), crystal kirikodama (Kirikodama), iron sword (Tetto), sword (Tosu), glass kodama, Sueki Ii, etc. were found.
Nishi Ward had a large shell mound from Jomon period, which had long been close to the sea and a livable place.
